This Hillsborough remodel was all about updating the kitchen in a way that made better use of the existing space. Things in the old kitchen seemed outdated and cramped and if we could redesign the space, the homeowners would get much more usability and enjoyment out of it. We accomplished this by moving appliances, adding more counter space, and other small tweaks. There was also a lack of storage so adding in elements that would address this was a top priority. We essentially used the same floor plan but now the kitchen is more functional and beautiful.
One big change we made was to move the cabinets down 18 inches and add a prep space where the refrigerator used to be. Now the cabinets go down the wall of the kitchen and are reconfigured to maximize space. For the cabinets, we chose custom features like built-in drawers for pots and pans, an extra deep cabinet, and a spice rack. The homeowners now have much more storage and prep space than they had before. We also added a trashcan pull out which is a nice, space-saving feature. The new white shaker cabinets brighten up the space and give it a modern, clean feel.
We moved the sink, dishwasher, and stove down to give more space in the kitchen. To accomplish all the rearranging, we had to move the waterline and main water shut off.
Some of the custom features of this kitchen remodel are the stone and marble mosaic backsplash, touch faucets, semi-custom cabinetry, and quartz countertops. The electrical upgrades include new recessed lighting in the kitchen, hall, and bathroom, a fixture over the sink, and under-cabinet lighting. The flooring was upgraded to luxury vinyl plank which we replaced throughout the entire first floor.
Down the hall, towards the garage, was another area we updated and added storage. For the bathroom and laundry room, we built custom shelving in the closet and added in a utility sink, with a malleable neck for washing clothes. Other upgrades included a new toilet, vanity, bar and lighting.
The homeowners were thrilled with the results. The kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room are all updated now and more functional, allowing them to enjoy their home for years to come.
