Adding to a Bathroom Renovation in Durham

It is not uncommon for homeowners to begin planning their next home renovation as we are completing their project. When beautifying one area of the home, outdated features previously unnoticed can often become more pronounced. In this bathroom renovation in Durham, NC, these homeowners knew from the beginning they wanted to extend their renovation into several other areas of their home.

In addition to fully gutting and installing their master bathroom, we updated the staircase, replaced the upstairs flooring, and customized a built-in storage area. For the stairs, we removed the carpet, installed unfinished hardwood stairs, and stained them to match the existing hardwood floors downstairs. To complete the look, we painted the spindles white and the handrails black.

For the upstairs flooring, the homeowners selected luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring from the wide variety of flooring available in our showroom. Working together, we helped them find LVP that closely matched the stairs and hardwoods downstairs.

The built-in shelving at the end of the hall originally contained a desk area. The homeowners needed more storage and scarcely used the desk. Our custom cabinet designer preserved the integrity of the existing built-in shelves while converting the desk into a custom cabinet. The new built-in now blends seamlessly with the original design.

In the master bathroom, the original inspiration for their home remodel, we fully gutted the space down to the studs. After installing moisture-resistant sheetrock, the homeowners chose to replace their tub with a spacious, walk-in shower with frameless glass, hexagon penny tile on the floor, and large-format subway tile on the walls. We completed the custom shower with a corner shelf and a unique double niche on the back wall. We installed an exhaust fan, new quartz countertops, and completely new lighting and fixtures to finish the space.
