We recently completed the renovation of a second floor master bathroom in Chapel Hill. The home was built in 2003 and the homeowners wished to upgrade the bathroom with a modern aesthetic and new fixtures. As the clients planned to reside in the house during the remodeling process, careful considerations and strategic solutions were imperative for a seamless and comfortable experience.
The first step in this remodeling endeavor involved a meticulous demolition process. The removal of French doors, casing, and jambs was executed, successfully reversing the door swing for enhanced functionality. Extensive removals, including existing toilets, vanity faucets, bathtub fixtures, and more, were part of this initial phase.
Ensuring compliance with current building codes, Housing Solutions replaced the wall insulation, as needed and conducted drywall repairs, addressing any issues arising from water line re-piping and the overall master bathroom remodel.
A comprehensive plumbing overhaul was executed, including the relocation of the mixing valve and the installation of new fixtures. From the Kohler Memoirs toilet to the American Standard Town Square bathtub, every detail was meticulously accounted for to meet current building codes.
The electrical plan encompassed the replacement of switches and outlets, accommodating a beautiful, new semi-flush mounted chandelier and client-furnished wall sconces. Simultaneously, the HVAC system was upgraded, with a focus on improving ventilation and overall air quality.
In the master bathroom, the installation of a Schluter waterproofing shower system, paired with carefully planned tile layouts and mosaic designs, resulted in a visually stunning and durable outcome. The shower glass door and panels added a touch of modern elegance. The master bathroom’s walls, ceiling, and trim received a fresh coat of paint, enhancing the overall aesthetics. Additionally, the installation of new vanity cabinets, primed pine millwork, and quartz countertops with undermount oval sinks redefined the space. One custom was the addition of a pull-out laundry basket/drawer in the vanity, providing a discreet and organized solution for laundry storage.
Protective measures were implemented to safeguard existing carpeting during the remodeling process. The installation of Mannington LVT ensured a durable and aesthetically pleasing flooring solution. In areas prone to humidity, primed pine moldings were used, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.
This comprehensive master bathroom remodeling project not only addressed functional aspects but also prioritized aesthetic appeal.
